Description

The monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus) may be the most familiar North American butterfly.
The name 'monarch' may be in honor of King William III of England.
Their larval stage lasts around two weeks and they spend another 2 weeks in their cocoon.
Adult monarchs live two to eight weeks during the breeding season.

I'm quite geeky when it comes to butterflies...
Taken at the yearly 'Landesgartenschau', this year in Papenburg, germany.
